Grooming Oneself for an Audition

For an actor, their physical appearance is extremely important. And it is not without reason. In a world obsessed with looking good, actors have a great deal of pressure put on them to look a certain way. It is not surprising then that aspiring actors often spend a great deal of time preening themselves before an audition. There are several factors that will determine how you should dress up for an audition. Given below are answers to some of the most common questions that aspiring actors ask when they need to attend an audition. Use these answers to learn how to groom yourself for an acting audition.

Should the Role I am Auditioning for Influence my Clothing?
It is important that the clothes you wear for your audition reflect the character you are auditioning for. But that does not mean that you arrive for the audition in full costume. If you are aiming to land the role of a doctor, it does not mean that you wear doctor’s scrubs for the audition. Instead be comfortably dressed in clothes that seem like what a doctor would wear outside the hospital or even something that mimics a doctor’s uniform.

Should the Age of the Character I am Auditioning for Make a Difference?
One of the most common mistakes that an aspiring actor makes while going for an audition is not dressing up age-appropriately. Many actors tend to dress up much younger than their actual age and this can often seem like they are trying too hard. It is not a pleasant tag to carry around and definitely not one that is easy to shirk off. It is important that you dress in a manner that is pleasant for your age. Another tip to keep in mind if you are dressing up according to the role is to take into consideration the age of the character. If you are a forty year old auditioning for the part of an eighty year old, then a little help in the cosmetics department may go a long way during your auditions.

Should I Take the Casting Director’s Specifications for the Role into Consideration?
This is a question that obviously demands a resounding yes. If the audition details specify that you dress up in a certain manner, then it is only expected for you to do the same. You should also take into consideration, whether it is a screen test or a face-to-face test. The colors and patterns that you wear to the audition will be determined by these factors. Of course, if there are no details given, then choose to dress in a subtle, neat and understated manner. Avoid gaudy colors at all costs and keep accessories to a minimum. Scary Games to Play in the Dark at Home

Whenever there is a blackout in my block, I usually get very bored, there is nothing to do and you have to just sit in the dark with candle light and wait for the lights to appear. I have always believed that we can have as much fun in dark as we have in the light. Just use your creativity and common sense and you can use this blackout to be a fun dark night. Mentioned below are some scary games to play in the dark. Play these games with people who have a strong heart and not with those who are so scared of the dark that they start crying and screaming, every time there is a black out. The Ouija Board: This game is a classic. It has been there since ages and still is one of the most popular scary games to play in the dark. Always a great choice to play in a blackout. Playing this game is very simple, you begin by just asking a question and wait to see what answer does the scary oracle give. You and the other player sit around the board. Both of you place your fingers gently on the message indicator and one of you asks a question loudly. All the players who are laying have to concentrate very hard on the question. Close your eyes while concentrating, it makes it more spooky. Wait for the indicator to move. The indicator stops and your answer is revealed through its message window. Bring on your scary questions to Ouija board. More on scary things to do.

Simpsons Tree House of Horror Monopoly: It is one of the best scary games for kids. It’s a popular game with a slightly scary theme. To play this game, players purchase scary themed properties from the Simpsons scary tree house. It’s your good old-fashioned monopoly game with a Simpsons background. A plus point for this game is it takes some time to play, so it’s a great way to pass time.

Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board: This scary game gives me the creeps. It starts with players laying their hands slightly under the volunteer who is lying on the floor. All the players gather around the volunteer and a story-teller tells a scary tale about the volunteer’s life and his/her unfortunate and scary death. Once the story is complete, the participants surround the volunteer’s body and chant loudly “Light as a feather, stiff as a board” and lift the volunteer’s body off the ground. The gist of the game is that the volunteer has to feel that haunting spirits are assisting in the lifting. This is one of the best scary games to play in the dark with friends. More on ghost stories.

Bloody Mary: No people, this is not your famous cocktail. It’s actually a scary game which shouldn’t be played if you are not comfortable with ghostly spirits and haunting stories. This game has always been a favorite among teenage girls. Read the rest of this entry »
